TAUNTON TOWN 1-2 HANWELL TOWN - GEORDIES WIN ON THE ROAD

Taunton Town 1- 2 Hanwell Town – 10/10/26

A brilliant away performance from Hanwell Town against Taunton gave them their first league win since August. A penalty from Jordan Esprit in the first half and a header from George Knight early in the second half cancelled out Gabe Billington’s goal.

The first half started the way of the hosts after a tidy run from Rice, in from the left saw his shot fly just over the crossbar.

However, it was Hanwell that produced the better chances following that. On two occasions, Esprit did well down the right to find some space and pull the ball into the box, but no one in black and white was waiting for a tap in.

21 minutes in, Zak Joseph was tripped just inside the box with the referee immediately pointing to the spot. Esprit calmly stepped up and slotted home high into the right corner, giving the Geordies a deserved lead.

Following that, it was the away side that pushed to extend their advantage. Henry Snee had the best chance after being played through by Joseph but he fired well over the bar.

After some late pressure from Taunton, the half ended after two additional minutes with Hanwell one goal ahead.

After the break, Hanwell started in the perfect way. A deep corner from Turner was missed by Godden in goal and Knight was on hand to head home from close range to double the Geordies advantage.

However, from that point, it was all Taunton. The home side pilled on the pressure all throughout the second half.

Chances from Rice and a disallowed goal all threatened the Hanwell back line. But a colossal performance from the Hanwell defenders kept Taunton at bay.

That was until the 75th minute. Substitute Green lost the ball on halfway with it being played over to Seymour. He rounded Beasant and tapped home to set up a nervy last 15 minutes.

Hanwell continued to defend brilliantly and did excellently with keeping the ball in the corner flag.

After three additional minutes, the referee blew for full-time giving the Geordies a well-deserved three points.

Hanwell assistant manager Lee Riddell said: “It’s a brilliant feeling. We’ve missed this feeling”.

Hanwell are next in action on Tuesday night when they face Chertsey Town in a 19.45 kick off at the OCS.
