HANWELL TOWN 1-1 CHERTSEY TOWN - DERBY DAY DRAW

Hanwell Town battled hard to secure a deserved point against Chertsey Town on Tuesday Night. A first half goal from Jordan Esprit was cancelled out by a Connor Lee freekick.

The first half started in frantic fashion. Chances for both sides came around with the best for the Geordies coming through a Dan Carr cross that was just in front of Zac Joseph.

However, 15 minutes in, the Geordies took the lead. A brilliant low cross from Carr found Esprit unmarked in the middle of the box, allowing the striker to tap home and give Hanwell the advantage.

From taking the lead, Hanwell looked to build on it. Harry Hoath had the best chance when he headed over from a cross.

Going towards the break, the game fizzled out. Neither team looked to score and the majority of the game was played in the middle of the pitch.

That was until the 44th minute. A Chertsey freekick on the edge of the box was converted by Connor Lee, drawing the visitors level on the stroke of half time.

The first half ended level.

From the start of the second half, the game had a quick tempo. Hanwell’s best chance came from some strong work from Henry Snee in the box, who found some space but his low shot was saved.

And it was Snee again who had the best chance of the second half. Another good cross into the box found the striker but his header could only be directed on the crossbar.

Five minutes into additional time, a flurry of shots in the box were all saved excellently by Luke Roberts, keeping the score level.

After some very late pressure from Hanwell, the game ended 1-1, with both teams settling a point.

Hanwell are next in action on Saturday when they face Bath City in a 15:00 kick off at the Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium.
