HANWELL TOWN 2-2 SHOLING - POINTS SHARED IN PERIVALE

Hanwell Town were left on to rue several missed chances as they were held to a goalless draw by Sholing on Saturday (15 August).

The Geordies created the better openings throughout the afternoon and will feel they should have taken all three points after dominating possession, territory and opportunities. However, poor finishing ultimately proved costly.

New signing Manu Oke-William was a handful throughout the first half. He carved out a good opportunity on 11 minutes after some brilliant pressing work, while a towering header shortly before the interval forced a good save from the visiting goalkeeper.

The game’s pivotal moment came in the 59th minute following an brilliant move involving Jordan Esprit and Ibrahim Sankoh. Their excellent link-up play created an open-goal opportunity for Eddie Cooper, who inextricably fired over the bar from close range.

Substitute Henry Snee was then presented with a good chance, only to see a tame effort fail to convert as Hanwell continued to search for a breakthrough.

To their credit, Sholing worked tirelessly in defence to preserve their clean sheet, but offered little attacking threat for much of the contest. Their closest moment came in the 72nd minute when Tommy Higgs struck a low effort narrowly wide of the post.

Despite their dominance, Hanwell ultimately had to settle for a point in a game that will feel like two points dropped.
